Lloyd "Mike" W. Melvin's Obituary
Lloyd "Mike" W. Melvin, age 91, of Ocean View, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, December 14, 1921 in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Clarence T. and Alice (Eagan) Melvin.
Mr. Melvin was employed as a Commercial Artist. for 40 years; he also owned and operated a sign and advertising business in Crofton, MD. Mr. Melvin served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Navy for eight years during World War II. Following his military service, he worked as a civilian with the Navy for a period of time. Mr. Melvin was a member of the American Legion Post 24, Ocean View VFW Post 7234 and he was an avid golfer. He was proud to say that he had a hole in one on every Par 3 at the Crofton Country Club in Maryland. In 1957, he helped design and he built the Augusta Float for President Eisenhauer's inaugoration.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Mary "Patty" in 2010, his son John Michael Melvin in 1997 and his son Stephen Melvin in 2011. He is survived by his son Michael Melvin of Silver Spring, MD; his daughter-in-law, Lynn Melvin of Silver Spring; a step-daughter, Carol Duvall of Silver Spring; two grandchildren: Lloyd ?W. Melvin III of Rockville, MD and Mary Kate LeWald and husband David of Gaithersburg, MD; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth LeWald of Gaithersburg, MD; his brother, Clarence T. Melvin, Jr. of Solomons Island, MD; and his sister, Betty M. Robrecht of Tall Timbers, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE. Friends may call at the church beginning at 10:00 AM. Entombment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro, DE following the Mass.
