Linden S. Doughten's Obituary
Linden S. Doughten Jr., age 78, of Lewes, DE, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Beebe Medical Center. He was born in Dover, DE, on Wednesday, September 13, 1933, son of the late Linden S. Doughten, Sr. and Marian (Bryant) Doughten.
Mr. Doughten was a an Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He worked in the computer industry, starting in the Delaware State Budget Commission, Data Processing Director for the State Treasurers Office and later for the Department of Education. He also held a position as MIS Director at Welded Tube of America in Philadelphia, PA and Chicago, IL and later retired from Delaware Importers in New Castle, DE as Director of Management Information Systems.
Mr. Doughten was also a professional musician all of his life; he played trombone in the Lin Doughten and Lee Paige Bands with his brother John. He also played with several jazz dance bands and combos on the Eastern Shore.
In addition to his musical career, Mr. Doughten enjoyed playing golf, surf fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
Mr. Doughten is survived by his wife, Gayle( Cary) Doughten of Lewes, DE; one daughter, Dawn D. Bradley and her husband Kevin of Wilmington, DE; two sons: Linden S. Doughten, III and his wife Rosemary of Smyrma, DE and Christopher S. Doughten and his wife Donna of Townsend, DE; one brother, John W. Doughten and his wife Barbara of Chadds Ford, PA; seven grandchildren: Kate, Andrew and Morgan Bradley and Reid, Dana, Kandice and Christopher Doughten; and one great granddaughter, Ella Alberti.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment private.
