Linda L. Book's Obituary
Linda L. Book, 77, of Rehoboth Beach, went home to be with the Lord on January 25, 2024.
Born in West Chester, PA, on November 22, 1946, Linda and her family lived in Glenmore, Paoli, and Malvern, PA, throughout her early years. In the summers, Linda and her family regularly vacationed at the Delaware beaches and in the summer of 1964 while vacationing in Rehoboth Beach she met a tall, dark, and handsome stranger at Wilmington Avenue and Boardwalk pavilion. After a few years of dating and hundreds of miles hitchhiking, driving back and forth to visit Linda, her husband Robert (Bob) Book decided it was more practical to marry her and they were in the summer of 1966.
Shortly after being married and settled in Rehoboth Beach, Linda took several jobs around town until the birth of their son, Robert (Rob) Book, II. After a few years at home raising a family and assisting with the bookkeeping of Bob’s painting business, Linda took a position as the Secretary at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she worshipped in Rehoboth Beach for several years. Some of Rob’s fondest memories with his mom include the days he went to work with her and got to run around the church finding all the hiding places and driving Reverend John Dean crazy.
In the mid 1980’s, after several long hours spent studying, Linda received her realtor’s license and developed a great reputation and many friends in real estate sales working with hundreds of clients at Pauline Porter Real Estate, O’Connor Piper & Flynn Real Estate, Vernon Realty, and finally Coldwell Banker in Rehoboth Beach. In 2021, she decided to retire from full-time sales which wrapped up her very successful 35+ year career.
Linda will be fondly remembered as a loving mom, a doting grandmom, and a wonderful friend to everyone she met. While Linda enjoyed vacationing across the country and spending time at her home in Florida, she also enjoyed serving on numerous committees with Westminster Presbyterian Church through the years, as well as serving in various service clubs around Rehoboth Beach such as the Rehoboth Art League.
Linda is survived by her son, Rob Book and his wife Kara of Milford, DE, and her two granddaughters, Gabrielle, and Camille.
Linda is now reunited in death with the love of her life, Bob, who she was married to for 54 years; her mother and father Gertrude & Rowland Hannum of Kennett Square, PA; her brother Gary Hannum of Glenmore, PA; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins she visited throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you remember Linda by contributing in her name to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Coolspring Presbyterian Cemetery, 28843 Log Cabin Hill Rd, Lewes, DE 19958.
