Leonard P. Kober's Obituary
Leonard P. Kober, age 76, of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 at his home. He was born Tuesday, June 7, 1938 in Washington, DC, son of the late Edward W. and Dorothy (Doggett) Kober.
Mr. Kober honorably served his country in the US Marine Corps and US Marine Corps Forces Reserves. He started his career working at Doggett’s Parking Lot in Washington DC before moving into a lengthy career selling carpets at Woodward and Lothrop Carpet in Chevy Chase, MD. He would later become a proud owner and operator of a beer, wine and cheese deli, "The Tipsy Mouse" in Rockville, MD. Mr. Kober successfully operated the business until he passed along his reigns and retired to Rehoboth Beach, DE in late 1990's.
While residing in the Maryland area, Mr. Kober was a past member of the Bethesda Chevy Chase Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was also an active parishioner of St. Martins Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, MD and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Following retirement to Rehoboth Beach, Mr. Kober was an active parishioner of St. Edmonds Catholic Church. He loved spending Burger nights on Mondays with his neighbors sharing stories and enjoying great humor. He also enjoyed mowing his lawn with his John Deer Tractor and gardening a variety of vegetables, then relaxing and watching his beloved Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles. Mr. Kober will be remembered for his positive attitude and caring nature. Throughout his life, he was a great role model to all his family and friends. He was the most sincere and positive person you have ever met.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kober was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane E. Kober; his second wife, Mary Lou O'Brien and his two brothers, Brent and Jack Kober. He is survived by his loving companion of 6 years, Janice Hoffman; two sons, L. Patrick Kober, Jr. and his wife Marybeth of Oil City, PA and Timothy J. Kober and his wife Tonja of Raleigh, NC; his two daughters, Jeanne M. Lange and her husband Steve of Laguna Niguel, CA and Diana Kober Seidman and her husband Allan of Baltimore, MD; his brother, Edward Kober; his sister, Dorothy Brooks and her husband Bud; five grandchildren: Christina, Bernie, Katie, Leisel and Cori; and his loving Yorkie canine friend, Reilly.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro, DE.
