Leonard Chaffinch's Obituary
Leonard Chaffinch, age 89 ,of Bridgeville, DE passed away on Saturday April 28, 2007 at Lofland Life Care in Seaford,DE. Mr. Chaffinch was born on April 15, 1918, in Greenwood, DE, son of the late George Warner Chaffinch, Jr. and Neita Ruth (Street) Chaffinch.
Mr. Chaffinch was a self employed farmer and carpenter his entire life.
For many years he served as a certified lay leader for the Methodist Conference at many of the churches throughout the county.
He was a former member of the Southern States Board; member and past president of the Bridgeville Kiwanis Club and had served as District Governor for Kiwanis; a former member of the Farm Bureau; and was a member of Gideons International. He especially enjoyed gardening in his later years and was known to keep everyone in fresh vegatables. Many people fondly remember his playing of the harmonica, banjo and fiddle.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years this may 9, 2007, Pauline (Harris) Chaffinch; Son-Darl V. Chaffinch of Apache Junction, AZ; Daughter-Sharon Mae Chaffinch of Bridgeville, DE., Son-Col. L. Aaron Chaffinch, DSP ret. of Greenwood, DE; Daughter-Portia M. Brandt of Muncy, PA; Sister-Helen Calder of Middletown, DE and five Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday May 3, 2007 at 11:00 A.M at St. Johnstown United Methodist Church, St. Johnstown Road, Greenwood, DE, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Rev. Dr. Everett Issacs will officiate. Interment will be in the adjoining churchyard cemetery.
Friends may call at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium - Hardesty Chapel , 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to St. Johnstown United Methodist Church, St. Johnstown Road, Greenwood, DE 19950.
