Leon C. Rockett's Obituary

Leon Chapman Rockett, age 89, of Lewes, DE passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015, at his residence, The King's Inn B & B in Lewes.
He was born in Takoma Park, MD, and lived most of his life in Washington, DC, a city that he loved. He played baseball, football and ran track at Central High School before joining the United States Army Corps in 1942. He was a radioman in B-17's and B-29's in the 8th Army Corps out of England. He flew many bombing missions.
After the United States entered Europe Leon was transferred to the Signal Corps, where he worked with radar and had a team of German soldiers. He received his High School diploma after his service with the United States Army Air Corps. He worked in the laundry business, then as a desk clerk in several hotels, before becoming a very respected salesman for several liquor stores, later becoming a wine consultant./
He belonged to the American Legion in Arlington, VA and later with the American Legion Post and VFW Post 7447 in Rehoboth, becoming the oldest veteran in American Legion Post #17, Lewes. He was a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge #2540; a member of St. Edmond Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Rehoboth Beach.
Leon was a great fan of the Washington Redskins and the Washington Senators.
He was married to Kaye O'Rourke Rockett and had three children, James C. who is 52 and twins Tom and Kelli who are 47. He is survived by his three children and three grandchildren, John, son of Tom and Elizabeth and Shannon and Meghan, daughters of J.C. and Paula. After Kaye's death, he married Patricia Pope, the owner of the bed and breakfast in 1988. They enjoyed their three timeshares, traveling, dancing and golfing.
Committal Services will be held on Tuesday, December 01, 2015, at 10:00 AM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
Friends may call on Monday, November 30, 2015 beginning at 7 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist of Southern Delaware, Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes, DE 19958.
