Lela Jeanne Duff's Obituary
Lela Jean "Jeanne" Duff, age 96 of Lewes, DE passed away at home on Friday, August 11, 2023. She was born on March 26, 1927, in Ponca City, OK, daughter of the late John W. and Cora E. (Cox) Welch.
Mrs. Duff attended Columbia Bible College obtaining her bachelor's degree in education. She continued her studies at the University of DE, from where she earned her master's degree in education. Mrs. Duff enjoyed a lengthy career in the Red Clay school district, retiring after 30+ dedicated years. After school, she worked with the parks and recreation department, a job that brought her great joy. For several years, Mrs. Duff also served her community by teaching basic adult education at the Women’s Correctional Center for 2 nights a week. Like any other good teacher, she radiated an absolute love of sharing all her knowledge to her students, giving them the love of learning, and helping them achieve success in the classroom and beyond. Mrs. Duff treasured time spent with her family and friends, above all. She was a loving and nurturing mother and friend, and her presence will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Duff was predeceased by her husband, Willis H. Duff, Jr., and her son, Timothy P. Cook. She is survived by her son, Nathanael L. Cook and partner John G. Uhrick, and her little Pomeranian, Jackie, the light of mom's life.
They family would like to thank Seasons Hospice for their support and wonderful care of Mrs. Duff.
Services will be private.
