Lee Edward Bye's Obituary
Lee Edward Bye, age 91, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2010 at Beebe Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on August 21, 1918 in Ventnor City, NJ, son of the late Levi B. and Katherine (Meyers) Bye.
Mr. Bye graduated from the Episcopal Academy, Philadelphia, PA in 1937 and from Dartmouth College in 1941 with his Bachelors of Arts degree. He was a member and president of his fraternity, Theta Chi. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a Commander during WW II. Mr. Bye enjoyed a long career with New Jersey Bell Telephone Company retiring in the early 1970’s. Shortly thereafter, he and his wife moved from Yardley, PA to Rehoboth Beach. Mr. Bye was a long time volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Kiwanis. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and surf fishing. He was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and St. Edmond’s Catholic Church. Mr. Bye was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a true friend to many.
Mr. Bye is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen V. (Sudol) Bye; 2 sons: Lee E. Bye Jr. and wife Sherry of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and John P. Bye and wife Maria P. of Voorhees, NJ; and 3 grandchildren: Peter, Lee, and Scott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 11:00 AM at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, or to Meals on Wheels Delaware, 32409 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes, DE 19958.
