Leatrice Mae Egolf's Obituary
Leatrice Mae Egolf, age 88, of Lewes, DE peacefully went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at her home. She was born January 24, 1926 in Pottstown, PA, daughter of the late Paul and Gladys (Swavely) Dames.
Mrs. Egolf and her husband Jerry, were managers of Sunnyside Orchards in Pottstown, PA. They not only sold fruit but also apple butter, cider, and homemade ketchup and relishes. Jerry then started a landscaping business, “Jerry Egolf Spraying and Landscape Maintenance” and Mrs. Egolf was the secretary and bookkeeper. While living in Pottstown, she was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church. She loved volunteering with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Upper Pottsgrove Fire Company, where she assisted with many dinners and functions to benefit the community.
In 1989 Mrs. Egolf relocated to the Lewes, DE area where she would make Angola Beach & Estates her home. She quickly became involved with the Cape Henlopen Senior Center, singing in their choirs and joining the dance group called "The Smoothies." Mrs. Egolf was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach. She was a charter member of the “Deo Gloria“Handbell Choir. She donated many hours with the Angola Beach & Estates Social Committee serving up fine dinners and lining up entertainment. Mrs. Egolf gave the gift of her time to the New Life Thrift Shop in Lewes and the local “Just Us” Cat Society. She loved her outdoor cats and always kept them well fed and happy.
When time permitted, Mrs. Egolf loved visiting the beach, reading a good book, gardening or cooking a wonderful meal for family or friends. Her most cherished time was that spent with her family, especially her grandchildren who she was so very proud of. Mrs. Egolf will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Egolf was preceded in death by her husband Jerry in 1985, a sister Arline Bleim and a granddaughter, Melissa Hafer. She is survived by her three sons, Gerald R. Egolf and his wife Sandra of Pollocksville, NC, Bruce K. Egolf and his wife Donna of Lewes, DE and Randy L. Egolf and his wife Marian of Boyertown, PA, four grandsons, Jacob M. Egolf and his wife Ingrid Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Bradley K. Egolf and his wife Julie of Harbeson, DE, Joseph M. Egolf of Newark, DE and Cody Weidner of Norristown, PA, one granddaughter Kim Young of Pottstown, PA, two great-grandsons, Timothy and Cody Young also of Pottstown, PA and two nephews, Robert Hofheinz of Marco Island, FL and David Hofheinz of Davie, FL.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 20276 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, where friends may visit beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being provided by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to "Just Us" Friends of Stray Cats, 110 Cullen Street, Dewey Beach, DE 19971 or Lutheran Church of Our Savior, “Deo Gloria” Handbell Choir.
