Lawrence Joseph Schmidt Sr.'s Obituary
Lawrence Joseph Schmidt Sr., of Milton, Delaware, passed away on March 29, 2026. He was born on September 26, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Valentine George Schmidt and Mary Ethel Collins.
Lawrence served in the Army in Vietnam and married Elizabeth Ann, who was his life, right before deploying. His hobbies include building, fixing, and playing with model trains. Lawrence and Elizabeth loved to travel and camp, making memories.
He dedicated 30 years to working at AMT/Superfresh, followed by another 10 years with the Cape Henlopen School District.
Lawrence was a devoted family man whose life was centered around those he loved most. He is predeceased by his wife, the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann, who passed a year and a half ago. He is survived by his brother, John Schmidt; his sister, Lulu Schmidt; and his sister-in-law, Debbie Schmidt.
He leaves behind a loving legacy through his son, Glen Schmidt Sr., and a large and cherished extended family. His grandchildren include Glen Schmidt Jr., Hunter Schmidt, Jordan Schmidt, Graice Schmidt, and Ashlee Marshall-Rivera. He is also survived by his grandchildren-in-law, Lauren Schmidt and Mackenzie Schmidt, as well as Gregory Marshall-Rivera Sr.
Lawrence was blessed with great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy: Vanessa Marshall-Rivera, Kinlie Marshall-Rivera, Gregory Marshall-Rivera Jr., Lyndsey Marshall-Rivera, and Tripp Schmidt.
He is also remembered fondly by his nephews, Brandon Schmidt and Matt Conway.
Lawrence will be remembered for his love of family, his strength, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through the generations he helped shape.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, at 11:00 am, at Parsell Funeral Homes, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE 19947. Viewing for family and friends will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held at the Delaware Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE, following the service at 1:00 pm .
