Lawrence Edwin James' Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” Edwin James of Lewes, Delaware passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Brandywine Living at Seaside Pointe. He was born on October 27, 1943, at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, son of the late Edwin C. James and Doris E. James.
Larry was raised in Havertown, Pennsylvania and graduated from Haverford Township High School in 1961. After high school he studied chemical engineering at Cornell University where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering.
Following graduation, Larry went to work for Rohm and Haas in Philadelphia and subsequently for BASF Corporation in Wyandotte, Michigan until his retirement. In the early days of his career, he worked on new chemical plant start-ups in multiple locations in the US and abroad. Larry was the inventor of ten United States Patents for chemical processes.
Larry enjoyed his loving family, coaching youth sports, traveling to many beach locations, and a lifetime of dog companions. He was frequently involved in home improvement projects at which he was very adept.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Lynn; daughter, Cindy James (Todd Hufnagel) of Lutherville, MD; son Lee James (Jennifer) of Chicago, IL; son Kent James (Dat Dang) of Arlington, VA; and brother Howard James of San Francisco, CA. He delighted in his grandchildren, Caroline and Adam Hufnagel, Nolan, Grant, and Quinn James, and Noah and Mai James.
A memorial service will be held at The Cathedral of the Incarnation in Baltimore, MD.
