Lawrence "Larry" Edwin Kaplan's Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) Edwin Kaplan, 64, of Bridgeville, DE, passed away on October 16th, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. Larry was born on May 16, 1950 in Washington, DC. He was a graduate of Wheaton High School in Wheaton, MD and attended the LU #26 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) trade school in Washington, DC. Larry was a Maryland resident for 56 years when he moved to Delaware and settled in Bridgeville, where he has resided for the past eight years. He has been an active member of his community, he was an avid bowler, and has been an active member of the local golfing community. For more than 42 years Larry was a member of the IBEW local #26, where he was respected for his leadership, knowledge, ability, and compassion for others. He worked for Rogers Electric, Proctor Electric, Proctor Power Solutions, and finally Power Solutions where he retired in 2013.
Larry was married to Sam (Stein) Fisher of Ellicott City for 20 years. They made their home in Columbia, MD where they raised two sons. Two years ago Larry met the love of his life, Joan Jones Kaplan, and in June 2014 they were married. Larry was the cherished son of Ben and Floris Kaplan of Wheaton, MD and the beloved father of Faran Kaplan and his wife Erin Kaplan of Seattle, WA, Desmond Kaplan and his wife Juliette Kaplan of Tewksbury, MA, step daughter Jamie Jones Pettyjohn and her husband Carlos Pettyjohn of Seaford, DE. He was the dearly loved grandfather of Benjamin, Emma, Sophia, Caroline, and Eleanor. He is also survived by his sister Andrea Levine and nephew Jeffrey Levine. He also leaves behind an aunt and uncle, cousins and many friends.
Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 2:30 PM at Bridgeville Cemetery, Market & Laws Streets, Bridgeville, DE.
