Obituary
Laura K. Smith, age 82, of Millsboro, DE died Sunday, November 20, 2005, at Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home in Millsboro. Ms. Smith was born March 13, 1923 in Auburn, NY daughter of the late William and Lucy (Knapp) Smith.
Ms. Smith graduated from Auburn City Hospital in 1944 as a Registered Nurse where she eventually became supervisor of the Pediatric Department. In the 1960s, she received a BA degree in teaching from Columbia University, New York City, and then became Chairperson of Nursing Services for the Auburn City School System. While living in New York, she was a member of the Zonta Club, a professional woman's organization. Ms. Smith retired in 1984 and moved to Lewes where she joined Conley's Chapel Methodist Church and was a very active member of its women's association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother William Smith and Elizabeth Short. She is survived by her niece Katherine Rotach and her husband John of Milton, DE; a nephew Kenneth Smith and his wife Nora of Sarasota, FL; a nephew Kerry Smith and his wife Debbie of Lewes, DE; six grand nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Smith of Sarasota, FL.
A Memorial Service will be held at Conley's Chapel Methodist Church, Conley's Chapel Road, near Angola, DE on Tuesday, November 29, 2005, 11 AM; Pastor Randy Booth will be officiating. Interment will be at a later date in New York. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
