Laura Ellen Jacob's Obituary
Laura Ellen Jacob, age 78, of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving husband and daughter after a courageous three-year battle with dementia.
Laura was born on April 22, 1946, in New Brunswick, NJ, to Rosalyn (Schwartz) and Harold Bank. She graduated from Tufts University, where she earned her degree in occupational therapy. Laura married Henry Jacob on July 2, 1967, at Maplewood Manor in Maplewood, NJ.
Throughout her career, Laura made a significant impact as an occupational therapist. She started working as a specialist in cardiac care before spending her last 23 years of employment at Ivy Mount School. During her final years of employment, Laura served as the head of assistive technology. Her dedication to helping others was evident in all aspects of her life.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Laura had a passion for knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She loved to read and played the piano. She cherished the time spent kayaking with her husband, Hank, creating lasting memories together. Laura called kayaking, “Active meditation.”
Laura will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, her infectious smile and unwavering spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration to all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Laura was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Kathy Jacob, Neal’s first wife. She is survived by her husband, Henry “Hank” Jacob; her daughter, Ronni Lynne Jacob; her son, Neal Jacob (Neal’s wife, Caren Appleby) of Front Royal, VA; her grandchildren that brought her great joy: Nathanael Jacob, Charis Elizabeth Patrick, former Jacob (Charis’s husband Noah Patrick,), and Aerial Jacob; and her step grandson, Christopher Appleby.
