Larry W. Fifer, age 75 of Lewes, DE passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021. He was born on June 17, 1945 in Dover, DE, son of the late C. Fred Fifer Jr. and Helen (Flora) Fifer.
Larry graduated from Caesar Rodney High School Camden, DE in 1963, received a B.A. from Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania in 1967 and a J.D. from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA in 1973. Larry treasured the friends he met at these schools and he maintained and enjoyed those relationships throughout his life.
A well loved and respected attorney (predominantly in Sussex County Delaware) for 48 years, beginning his career at Schmittinger & Rodriguez PA in Dover and subsequently opening his solo practice where he enjoyed serving his many clients. Larry was well served by his Secretary and dear friend, Gay Light for 43 years. They were a formidable team.
Larry was an avid gardener who loved reading, creative writing, golfing, dogs, birds, and roses. He enjoyed attending his grandson, Ian's soccer games and fishing and golfing with his son John and Ian, He was a loving and devoted partner to Lisa and a true father to her children Zachary and Hannah. Above all, Larry enjoyed time spent with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted partner, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Larry was proud to follow in his father's footsteps and made serving his community and others a high priority. He served as a past President of the Sussex County Bar Association, an active member of the Delaware State Bar Association, a past President of the Lawyers Assistance Committee, a member of the Delaware Trial Lawyers Association, a past President of Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club, a member of the Board of Directors of the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Delaware Trial Lawyers Association, a member of the Board of Advisors of Historic Lewes Farmers Market. Larry believed in leaving everything a little better than he found it and he did so quietly and humbly. He was a person who was not afraid to commit his time and money to causes he believed in and he was known for following through with his commitments.
Larry was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having honorably served in the United States Army. He was a long time and dedicated friend of Bill W’s.
In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his brother, Fred Fifer, llI. He was survived by his beloved partner of 23 years, Lisa M. Andersen, his former wife and friend, Nancy G. Fifer, his son, John A. Fifer (Barbara) of Harrington, DE; his stepson, Zachary M. Yindra of Burlington, VT; his stepdaughter, Hannah E. Yindra of Burlington, VT; his grandchildren: Ian , Christa, Stephanie, Catherine, and David; his brother, Carlton C. (Barbara) Fifer of Wyoming, DE; his sister: Mary F. Fennemore (Mike) of Wyoming, DE; his sister in law, Mary Catherine Fifer Postlethwait of Wyoming, DE; his nephews: Mark F. Fifer (Bess), David A. Fifer ( Ruth), Robert S. Fifer (Candace), M. Curtis Fifer (Bekah), Michael A. Fennemore Jr. (Tracy), Jason L. Fennemore (Kelly); and his niece Susan E. Fifer (Stephen Woods).
The family suggest donations in Larry's memory to be made to Lewes - Rehoboth Rotary Club, www.lewes-rehobothrotary.org, or Historic Lewes Farmer's Market, www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org.
