Kerstin Tara Griffin's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Kerstin Tara Griffin announces her passing on June 8, 2026, in Lewes, Delaware.
Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1956 to John Barry Fields and Mary Cooper Fields, Kerstin’s family, including her younger sister, Briana Karen, moved frequently during her early years as her parents finished their degrees and began their careers. Kerstin attended high school in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she graduated in 1975. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Northern Virginia, and Kerstin enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. She served for four years and was primarily stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
Following her discharge from the Air Force, Kerstin began her college education in Northern Virginia. She married a fellow student, and together they had three children, Rachel Elizabeth, Alexander Benjamin, and Rebecca Renee. After her divorce, Kerstin and her children moved back to her family’s home in Virginia, where she completed her master’s degree in Special Education. She worked as a teacher in Fairfax County, Virginia, until her retirement.
During her time in Virginia, her granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth, was born to Rachel, and the three lived together in Fairfax County until Hannah left for college and Rachel began her career in Richmond, Virginia.
As an empty nester, Kerstin joined her sister and brother-in-law, Jack Dolejsi, in Delaware, where she enjoyed an adventurous life with her little dog, Toby. She loved traveling, attending festivals and fairs, taking classes through Osher Lifelong Learning, and spending time outdoors. She generously gave her time to the community by volunteering to serve seniors and animals.
Kerstin’s love for her family knew no bounds and brought her great comfort and happiness. Her kind, funny, and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Kerstin’s honor at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, Virginia, on July 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
