Kenneth P. West's Obituary
Kenneth "Kenny" P. West, age 65, of Bridgeville, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Bridgeville, on August 8, 1946, son of the late Paul Washington and Nona (Goswellen) West.
Mr. West was a Sussex County native who grew up in Bridgeville and attended Woodbridge High School. He worked as a Supervisor for 11 years at American Original in Seaford, DE and 14 years at Seawatch in Milford, DE. Together with his family he owned and operated his own lawn care business "Ken's Lawn Care" in Georgetown, DE. He was a member of the American Legion, Nanticoke Post #6 in Seaford. Mr. West was a known for being a renown horseman; he trained, bred, and showed quarter horses and Standard Breds. He enjoyed any type of racing and eating, especially chicken and dumplings at the Bridgeville Fire Company. His biggest passion of all was his love for family and the time spent with his daughter Casey introducing her to the love of horses and more. He was a loving father and the patriarch of his family, who will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn (Lofland) West; his infant son, Kevin West (1966); his brother, Paul Phillip West; half-brothers: Lawrence Williams and Carlton Williams; half-sister, Marilda Wheatley; and nephew, Joseph R. Wheatley. Mr. West is survived by his daughter, Casey West and partner Lori Bailey of Georgetown; a step-daughter, Faith Richards Reed and her husband Donald of Houston, DE; two step-sons: Arthur Richards of Oak Orchard and Joseph Richards and wife Holly Bare of Georgetown; four grandchildren: Jordan Reed, Taylor Reed, Ashley Bare and David Bare; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Wheatley of Bridgeville and James Lofland and wife Barbara of Milford, DE; nieces: Sharon Wheatley Hawk and husband Charles of Bridgeville, and Joanne Wheatley Jones and husband Jerry of Bridgeville; other nieces and nephews; his dear friends and his pets: loyal companion dog "Buddy;" grand-puppies: Star and Oliver and grand-kitties Misty and Xena and several other kitties and a horse Comet.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at 12:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, where friends may call beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the services at the Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville.
