Kaye Baker Mentzer's Obituary
Mr. Kaye Baker Mentzer, age 71, of Lewes, DE (formerly of Hereford and Westminster, MD) passed away suddenly on Friday, December 25, 2015 at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE. He was born on September 15, 1944 at Hagerstown, MD, son of the late Harry and Anita Mentzer.
Mr. Mentzer married the love of his life, Kathleen Schilling Mentzer, on November 4, 1988. He enjoyed owning a family restaurant in Hereford, MD and working at Schilling Chemical with his wife Kathy.
Mr. Mentzer loved golfing, bowling and playing pickle ball with his friends and family. He also enjoyed organizing, coaching and playing softball. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. Mr. Mentzer volunteered at Beebe Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Center.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mentzer was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Mentzer. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Schilling Mentzer; a son, Jeff Mentzer and his wife Amy and grandchildren Zachary Kaye and Sydney; a step son, Shawn Offutt and his wife Ashleigh and grandchildren, Case and Maravel Offutt, and Olivia and Carson Davis; a step daughter, Keri Long and her husband Jim and grandchildren Blake, Grant and Ana Helis; a step son, Bryan Offutt and his wife Michelle and grandchildren, Wyatt, Hailey, Kolton and Charley; a brother, Larry Mentzer and his wife Barbara; a sister, Sharon Nulf and her husband Joe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 29, at 2:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may call beginning at Noon. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Mr. Mentzer’s memory to a charity that was dear to his heart, Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate). Mr. Mentzer had tremendous respect for those who have and are currently serving our country.
