Kathryn "Kathy" Callaway McCumbers' Obituary
Kathryn “Kathy” Callaway McCumbers, age 60, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, DE on Sunday, April 22, 2012. She was born in Bridgeville, DE, daughter of Charles Clifford and Pauline (Gray) Callaway of Bridgeville.
Kathy was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Oak Grove, Seaford, DE. She was a 1969 graduate of Bridgeville High School and a 1978 graduate of Delaware Technical and Community College, Georgetown, where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Human Services. Kathy was employed by the State of Delaware for many years as a social worker in Georgetown and at the Edward W. Pyle Service Center in Roxana, DE. At the time of her passing, she had been employed for ten years at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
Kathy and her husband Mike lived on their farm and thoroughly enjoyed their animals. Kathy especially enjoyed the many stray and injured cats that she took into her home, feeding, loving and nurturing them. Besides her feline family, she also enjoyed her precious goat, “Patches” and beagle dog “Willey.”
Yard sales, reading, crab feasts and family gatherings were high on her list for entertainment. She always looked forward to the football season and was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Michael D. McCumbers; a brother, Clifford C. Callaway; several aunts and uncles; numerous cousins; and special friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE followed by interment at Bethel Cemetery at Oak Grove, Seaford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 26, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and on Friday, April 27, beginning at 1:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Georgetown SPCA, 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947 or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
