Kathryn G. Baker's Obituary
Kathryn G. Baker passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on August 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 19, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the beloved daughter of the late Albert and Kay Gonce.
A proud graduate of Little Flower High School, Kathryn joined the Civil Air Patrol, where she met the love of her life, R. William “Bill” Baker. They were married on August 17, 1957, at St. Martin’s in Philadelphia and spent a beautiful lifetime together, building a home filled with faith, love, and purpose.
Kathryn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and her husband were successful business owners, but her greatest joy came from her family and service to others. Kathryn was an adventurous spirit who loved fishing, water skiing, ice skating, camping, and traveling. Her deep Catholic faith guided her life—she was an active member of the church, a proud Columbiette, and served as an altar server administrator. She brought comfort to many by assisting with religious services in nursing homes and inspired young minds as a scout leader and substitute teacher in Catholic schools.
Kathryn is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 68 years, R. William Baker. She was the loving mother of five children: Bill Baker (Ellen), Kevin Baker (Cathy), Karen Neely, Sue Killen (Roy), and David J. Baker (Debbie). She was cherished by her grandchildren: Kimberly, Joey, Christopher, Jamie, Shane, and Brian; and by her great-grandchildren: Dylan, Grace, Owen, Hadley, Harper, Everly, and Bryson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Kay Gonce, and her brothers, Albert and David Gonce.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE. Family and friends are invited to a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. A reception will follow at the Parish Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made in Kathryn’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, supporting cancer research and care for children: https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
Kathryn’s legacy of faith, family, and selfless service will live on in all who knew and loved her.
