Kathleen E. Mrak's Obituary
Kathleen E. Mrak of Rehoboth Beach peacefully departed this life on March 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband, Joseph Mrak, and daughter, Joelle Mrak, after a long illness. She was 82 years old.
Born on October 13, 1942, in New Jersey, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Julia and Vincent Colligan. She grew up in Wallington, New Jersey, and graduated from Wallington High School. Kathleen married Joseph Mrak nearly 60 years ago, and together they raised a family.
For more than 40 years, Kathleen was a resident of Southbury, Connecticut, before moving to Delaware. She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Mrak; her children, Joelle Mrak and Joseph Mrak; and four grandchildren: Morgan Mrak (and son-in-law Scott Morneault), Alexander Mrak, Avery Mrak, and Aspen Mrak. Kathleen also retired from Praxair, where she worked as a Corporate Safety Analyst. Her faith as a Roman Catholic was central to her life.
Kathleen had a remarkable talent for sewing, which she enjoyed deeply. Her sewing skills were diverse, ranging from altering clothes to creating beautiful, handmade curtains. She crafted dresses, skirts, and even Halloween costumes for her daughter and granddaughter, Morgan. In addition, Kathleen made clothes for dolls, including Barbie Doll wedding dresses and American Girl Doll outfits, some of which she generously donated for fundraising events. The doll clothes she created were especially popular, admired for their exquisite details. One memorable creation was a matching princess costume for Morgan and her American Girl Doll.
Kathleen also found joy in baking, particularly cookies and cakes. Her grandchildren especially loved her famous chocolate pixies.
Kathleen will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In honor of Kathleen's battle with dementia, her granddaughter Morgan is participating in the 48 Peaks fundraising event for the Alzheimer's Association. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Morgan's fundraiser , https://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=18394&pg=personal&px=23510546 , all donations raised power the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958. Family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, 600 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
