Karen Joy Metcalf's Obituary
Karen Joy Metcalf, age 65, of Lewes, DE passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE. She was born on December 22, 1949 in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late William A. and Lois (Cromwell) Mort.
The priority in Karen’s life was her family, who she always put first. She filled her home with warmth and made it inviting to guests. Karen was an exceptional cook, using many of the recipes that were passed on to her through her western Pennsylvania roots. She was a great entertainer and enjoyed spending time conversing with her friends over a glass of wine or a key lime martini. She was never one who was afraid to share her opinion of political issues or current events.
Karen was an avid reader, a pet lover and enjoyed shopping. She had a flair for fashion and enjoyed exploring shops for new outfits. She also loved gardening and planting beautiful flowers around her home. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, wearing her black and gold proudly.
Mrs. Metcalf with her family moved to the Delaware beach area in 1992. Here she became an active volunteer with the Rolling Meadow Homeowners Association and a member of the Rolling Meadow's "Out-to-Lunch Bunch" group. She was a community minded woman, who raised awareness and funds for the needs of her community and the needs of others around her.
The Metcalf family is very saddened by the sudden loss of their wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt.
