Julia Marker Melson's Obituary
Julia M. Melson, age 93, of Georgetown, passed away at home on Thursday, November 26, 2009 in the loving care of her family.
Born in Georgetown, Delaware to the late John Foster and Bessie Virginia (Lynch) Marker, she graduated from Georgetown High School in 1934. Upon graduation, Julia remained in Georgetown working in the law firm of Tunnell and Raysor. While raising her family, she assisted her husband, Harvey, in the family business, HEMCO Distributing Company. Later she was employed by the State of Delaware in the Attorney General’s Office, retiring in 1979. An avid bridge player, Julia enjoyed playing cards with her Bridge Club friends. As a member of the Sussex Pines Country Club, she continued to enjoy bridge games and in her earlier years participating in golf tournaments. She was a member of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church and a former member of the New Century Club of Georgetown. She took great pleasure spending time in her flower garden and creating floral arrangements. Mrs. Melson is survived by her devoted family: daughters, Juliann M. Taylor and Karen M. Parker and husband John, all of Georgetown; a step daughter Jill M. Gray of Santa Maria, CA; sister-in-law Hazell M. Smith, of Lewes; 9 beloved grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Julia is also survived by her dear nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her husband, Harvey E. Melson in 2002 and all of her siblings. Funeral services will be at 2 pm on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd -Carey Chapel, 307 North Bedford Street, Georgetown, Delaware where friends may call at 1pm. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Georgetown Presbyterian Church Building Fund, North Bedford St, Georgetown, Delaware.
