Joy R. Mingle's Obituary
Joy Riddell Mingle, age 87, passed peaceably September 28, 2020 at the Moorings Retirement Homes in Lewes DE. She was born on April 16, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late John Wesley and Ruth Marion (Davis) Riddell.
Joy grew up in Philadelphia and then Reading, PA, graduating from Mt. Penn High School in Reading, PA. She received her nursing training from the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. Joy met Bill Mingle while he studied Pharmacy at Temple University. They married in 1955 and moved to Springfield, PA where they raised their three children. Joy was employed by Springfield Hospital as an Intensive Care nurse during the 1960's and 1970's.
After Bill retired from Pharmacy, he and Joy moved to Lancaster County in 1988. There they spent their golden years with their growing grandchildren, and entertained their family, neighbors, college friends, and many other friends and acquaintances from all over the United States, including friends they met on trips to England. Joy always had at least one cat in her household and enjoyed antique collecting, gardening, cooking, and most of all her time with her loving family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, William Orris Mingle. Joy is survived by her sister, Judith Lynne Riddell; her children: Jeffrey William, Joy D’Ardyonne (Thomas Wolven) and John Wesley (Sherri Langford); her grandchildren: Sara Lynn Mingle, Thera Elizabeth Wolven (Nathan Marine), William Eric Wolven (Sarah Gordon), Brandon Thomas Wolven (Brittany Kwash), Emily Joy Wolven (Sean Barefoot), Nathan William Mingle and Evan Wesley Mingle; and also five great-grandchildren: Harper Grace Barefoot, Hudson Thomas Barefoot, Avery Joy Barefoot, Bruce Miles Marine and Keira Shay Wolven.
