Josephine "Deeny" Mary Sing's Obituary
Josephine “Deeny” Mary Sing, age 96 of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Tuesday, May 18, 1915 in Wilmington, DE, daughter of the late Joseph H. and Mary Theresa (Kroon) Merkel.
Mrs. Sing was a Delaware native growing up in Wilmington and attending St. Paul’s Catholic School through high school. Shortly after completing school she would meet the love of her life, William “Bill” G. Sing, Sr. whom she happily wed on New Year’s Eve 1934. In 1939, the Sing’s would settle in Lewes, DE where they would raise 4 children. Mrs. Sing was an active parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church of Lewes, St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church Parish Blessed Virgin Mary of Sodality of Rehoboth Beach. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, crocheting, and most of all, being a homemaker. Mrs. Sing was known for her open arms and warm heart, she was the true matriarch of the family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sing was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, William G. Sing, Sr., 4 sisters, and 1 brother. She is survived by her daughter, Bernadette Mary Pierce and her husband W. Brien of Lewes, DE; 3 sons: William George Sing, Jr. and his wife Mary of Wilmington, DE, Michael J. Sing of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Anthony E. Sing and his wife Cathy of Lewes, DE; 7 grandchildren: William, Dan, Beth, Kristin, Jacob, Mary, and Julie; 5 great grandchildren: Gabriel, Sierra, Nathanael, Kaiya and Joshua; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 12, 2011, at 11:00 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Pilottown Road, Lewes, DE. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Benedictine School for Exceptional Children, Inc., 14299 Benedictine Lane, Ridgely, MD 21660.
