Joseph "Joe" W. Sabbi's Obituary
Joseph W. "Boogie" Sabbi, age 77, of Millsboro, DE, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. He was born on May 13, 1937 in West Chester, PA, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Matta) Sabbi.
Mr. Sabbi was a 1954 graduate of Conestoga High School in Berwyn, PA. After graduation, at the tender age of 17, he joined the National Guard of Pennsylvania, where he served for seven years. He would soon embark on a 40 year career as a Butcher with DeVault Packing Company. Mr. Sabbi then utilized his meat cutting expertise working with A & P Supermarket, which is now known as Super Fresh, where he retired in 2000.
He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and any outdoor activities up until his last days. Mr. Sabbi also loved golf and coin collecting but the hobby closest to his heart was following NASCAR. He was an excellent cook who loved firing up the grill for friends and family. Mr. Sabbi was a very social man, who talked with anyone and everyone that crossed his path in life. He had many many friends who will miss him dearly.
Mr. Sabbi was a member of the American Vets and was an active parishioner of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Millsboro.
Mr. Sabbi is survived by Mary Lou Sabbi and their three children: Joseph T. Sabbi and his wife Bonnie of Malvern, PA, Marcellia Lancello and her husband Joseph of West Brandywine, PA, and Theresa Salcito and her husband Christopher of West Brandywine, PA. He is also survived by his three brothers: Eddie Sabbi and his wife Katherine of Phoenixville, PA, Gene Sabbi of West Brandywine, PA and Richard Sabbi and his wife Jane of Spring City, PA; one sister, Joanne Donnon of Pottstown, PA; four grandchildren: Kristen, Lauren, Alexandra and Stephanie; and his beloved feline companion, "Smokey."
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, DE 19966 where friends may visit beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow Mass at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel, DE.
