Joseph B. Whitney's Obituary
Joseph B. Whitney, Sr, age 83 of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Dundalk, MD on February 9, 1928, the son of the late Eugene and Alice (McMahon) Whitney.
A resident of Lewes for the past 19 years, Joseph and his wife , Betty, lived in MD, where he worked for Bethlehem Steel before retiring.
He enjoyed boating and dancing, but he especially loved spending time with his wife, children, grand children and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
Joseph proudly served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and US Army during the Occupied Forces. He was a member of the VFW Mason-Dixon Post #7234 of Ocean View, DE and American Legion Post #28 in Millsboro, DE. He also is a member of the Knights of Columbus of Rehoboth Beach, DE.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Betty" (Cummings) Whitney; five children, daughter; Susan Cadwallader and husband Dan, son; Joseph and his wife Leny, son; Eugene and his wife Holly, daughter; Rhonda Rigdon and her husband Bob and son; Robert and his wife Sandy, nine grandchildren; Joel Brenner and his wife Sarah, Joseph Whitney,III , Jonas Cadwallader, Christopher and his wife Beth, Pasha Rigdon, Kenny Brown, Nina Bradley and her husband Sean, Jenny Burroughs and her husband Josh, Lauren Brauda and her husband JR., nine great grandchildren and one sister Betty- Lou Weber. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
