Joseph A. Nitroy's Obituary
Joseph A. Nitroy, Jr. age 83, of Lewes, DE passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at his residence. He was born on Thursday, December 24, 1931 in Lancaster, PA son of the late Joseph A. and Anna (Schmalhofer) Nitroy, Sr.
Mr. Nitroy was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and furthered his education graduating with his Associate degree from Penn State University. In January of 1952 Mr. Nitroy married his lifetime partner, Anna at Holy Trinity Church in Columbia, PA. He and Anna just recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
As a Landscape Designer, he enjoyed working on many major projects including Independence Mall, the White House Ellipse, I-95 and the Reagan Airport. In his earlier years Mr. Nitroy enjoyed hunting. Later in life his interests turned to painting and winemaking. He was very passionate about both and loved the joy his painting and winemaking brought to others.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Nitroy was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Nitroy. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna of Lewes, DE; a daughter, Ann Marie Dinkel and her husband Douglas of Lewes, DE; two sons, J. Michael Nitroy and his wife Susan of Barto, PA; Kenneth R. Nitroy and his wife Lisa also of Barto, PA; one brother, John Nitroy of Columbia, PA; four grandsons, Kenneth R. Nitroy, Jr. of Bethlehem, PA; Colin Nitroy; of State College, PA, Michael S. Nitroy and Andrew S. Nitroy both of Barto, PA; one granddaughter, Lauren N. Nitroy of Pittsfield, MA and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE. Friends may call at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE from 9:30 AM-10:30 AM. Interment will be private.
