Joseph Harmon Eibling's Obituary
COLONEL, Joseph Harmon Eibling, USAF ret., age 84, of Lewes, DE passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at home in Lewes, DE. He was born on February 22, 1931 in Youngstown, OH, son of the late Harmon and Mary (Anthony) Eibling. In addition to his parents, Mr. Eibling was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean (Huffman) Eibling of 53 years.
Mr. Eibling graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Engineering Cooperative Program with a degree in Civil Engineering. While a coop student he worked for the Southern Railroad. After graduation he began a very rewarding and distinguished career with the US Air Force at high government levels in the Pentagon, retiring after 26 years of service. During his career with the Air Force he attended the College of Armed Forces in Alabama. After moving permanently to the Sussex County area in the early 90's, Mr. Eibling served as a Consulting Structural Civil Engineer for many of the large projects and homes built in the area.
He was a devout Christian and member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach, DE where his professional skills were utilized in the expansion and growth of the church, including serving as Choir Director.
Mr. Eibling had an extreme passion for classical and baroque music and for choral music. He served as a Board Member for the Delaware Symphony and for the Brandywine Baroque. He was a member of the Mid Delaware Choral Society where he had served in various capacities including as Board Member and President.
During his free time, he enjoyed projects of all types including building a harpsichord and a grandfather clock. He loved traveling in the US, Canada and Europe.
He is survived by his wife of eight years, Barbara Wood; Five sons; Russell Eibling (Mary) of Aiken, SC, Michael Eibling (Shelly) of Evans, CO, Frederick Eibling (Renee') of Bel Air, MD, David Wood (Margaret) of Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Rob Wood (Susan) of Rehoboth Beach, DE; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
DUE TO INCLIMATE WEATHER, Services have been rescheduled for Sunday Jan.24, 2016 at 2:00 PM ath the Lutheran Church of Our Savior where friends may call one hour prior to services.
