I knew Joe and his brother Mike from high school. We shared some classes but I was always grateful when Joe shared his sports expertise with us at gym. Often he would encourage us in gym classes to do our best as it was hard for many of us, though athletics seemed so natural for Joe. Joe would always smile and say hello during class breaks to me as well as the other students who were not gifted in sports like he and Mike were. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and especially his brother, Mike. Rest in peace, Joe. You were an inspiration for many of us.
Sunday,Joann,Joey,Chrissy,Mike and family my condolences to you. Joey without doubt will sorely missed by us all. Joe and I spent a lot of time together working at Lukens. I feel as though you are extended family because Joe and I would often talk of each of our families. I have one experience I would like to share with you. Joe and I were working over one day. Joe told me he wanted to clear out the Stripper trench. The Stripper was where we would separate the molds from the ingots. The trench had a mold with an ingot stuck inside of it. This was a giant mold and ingot. We probably were going to go over the weight limit of the crane. Joe directed me in the crane over this mold and told me to lift it up easy. I got it up in the air high enough to load it onto a railroad car and I asked Joe if I was centered over the car. I didn't get an answer so I looked where Joe was last standing and he was gone. I set the mold down on the car and parked the crane. I came down the steps from the crane and Joe was standing there. I said "Where'd you go?". He just laughed and said I didn't know if the crane was going to come down or not so I stood back. Fun and games at Lukens. Joe I'm truly going to miss you Brother!
Dear Sunday and Family
Joe will be missed by all who knew him. Our families grew up together during work, play, ocean vacations, and pool times. Joe was a true friend and will be remembered by the Shaw family. Those memories will remain in our hearts forever. Rest in peace and keep an eye on all of us from above.
Ed, Lois and family
