Joseph J. Cmiel's Obituary
Joseph J. Cmiel , age 91, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 9, 2011 at, Beebe Medical Center. He was born in Plymouth , PA, on Sunday, October 24, 1920, son of the late Stanley ad Mary (Snieg) Cmiel . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Florence B. Cmiel (2006), four brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Cmiel was a U.S. Navy radarman third class, during WWII, serving in the Pacific; he was active with the USS Bunker Hill CV 17 Association. He was employed by the Federal government in the District of Columbia as a Corrections Officer for 27 years. In 1977, Mr. Cmiel and his wife relocated to Rehoboth Beach from Alexandria, VA; they were devoted members of St. Edmond Catholic Church. He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren and friends.
Mr. Cmiel is survived by two sons: Stephen J. Cmiel of King George, VA and Joseph S. Cmiel and his wife Mary of Glen Burnie, MD; two daughters: Marian J. Cmiel of Rehoboth Beach and Catherine J. Cmiel-Acevedo and her husband Jorge Acevedo of El Paso, TX, five grandchildren: Aaron, Nathan, Elisabeth and Daniel Cmiel and Jacob Acevedo-Cmiel; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, where the family will greet friends at the church beginning at 10:30 AM.
Interment will be on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Delaware Veteran Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
