On May 23, I lost a dear friend, although the loss is physical his memory will forever be etched in my heart. As a nurse, the opportunity to unlock the communication barrier is present and once the key presents itself a bond and friendship can develop. Jose was my captive audience but always with an approving grin. He was my confidant who held all my secrets secure. While working overnight I’d have to explain that he needed to rest and sleep that it wasn’t play time. Jose would gaze endlessly through the window desiring to observe as much as possible. He loved being outside. After reading to Jose for a lengthy time he would grin-it was understood, “how do I turn her off”. On walks we would greet neighbors, arouse sleeping dogs and occasionally go 4-wheeling to avoid crazy drivers. This spring while out for a walk I bought a small project boat from a neighbor. It took time to convince Jose it was a need not a want. He did approve finally. Now the project boat serves as a reminder of our shopping spree. I miss my friend and hope to see him again sometime.
Jose was blessed to be born to your family and you (all) were blessed a hundred fold in return. He was always gentle and kind and I will not forget him. Rest easy Jose 💙
