John Carlton Workman's Obituary
John Carlton Workman, Sr. age 77 of Georgetown, DE died Friday December 2, 2011 in Inova Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, VA. Mr. Workman was born April 16, 1934 son of the late Wilson J. and Miriam P. Dickerson Workman of Georgetown, DE.
After graduating from Georgetown High School in 1952 Carlton served with the US Army, 519th Signal Corp, as a cryptographer and was stationed at both Camp Gordon and Ft. Meade. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Later he served with the Delaware National Guard as a Staff Sergeant. After his tour with the Army he began a career with the E.I. DuPont Company for almost 39 years.
He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church; American Legion Post # 19, and Union Lodge #3 I.O.O.F. Travel, horticulture, genealogy and local stock car racing were some of his favorite pastimes. For many years he raised Southdown Sheep near Hardscrabble. Mr. Workman was a very outgoing individual who enjoyed his family and many friends.
Surviving are his wife of over 58 years Ellen S. Workman; his daughter Katrina Ellen Berger and her husband Ed of Haymarket, VA; his son John C. Workman of Monticello, FL and dear friend Odis Kendrick of Baghdad, Iraq. Other survivors include Iren W. Hitchens of Milford, Wayne and Diane Ellingsworth, Richard and Loreta Workman and Wilson and Cheryl Workman all of Georgetown, DE; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and inlaws.
All services and burial will be private.
