John E. Watson's Obituary
John E. Watson, age 86, of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on Monday, October 26, 2015, at his residence. He was born on Tuesday, November 20, 1928 in Cincinnati, OH, son of the late John and Kirby (Stooksbury) Watson.
Mr. Watson honorably served his country with the US Marine Corps. After serving his country, Mr. Watson embarked on a career in the printing industry. He worked with the Government Printing Office for a few years before striking out on his own, purchasing the Cooke Typographers in Arlington, VA, which he owned and operated for twenty plus years. After running his course in the printing industry, Mr. Watson was a Broker/Agent for Long & Foster Real Estate in Arlington, VA, where he retired.
Following retirement, Mr. Watson relocated to the Rehoboth Beach area where he worked part time for Super Fresh as a cashier. He had a true heart for volunteering and worked countless hours with the Marine Corp League Toys for Tots and volunteering with the New Life Thrift Shop.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #28 and VFW Post #7447 in Rehoboth Beach. Mr. Watson was Past President of South Arlington Lions Club and Deputy District Governor of District 24. One of his most honorable achievements was being awarded the Man of the Year in Arlington County by the inter service council in 1982. He was a lifelong Humanitarian.
Mr. Watson was always on the go, never one for sitting idle, working hard all his life. A devout Catholic, he attended St. Edmond Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach where he served as an Usher. Some of his favorite pastimes were gardening, yard work, listening to various types of music and watching the Washington Redskins. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 38 years, Darlene Watson of Rehoboth Beach, DE; 2 daughters, Karen Watson of Sumter, SC; Lisa Garner and her husband Tim of Newport News, VA; 3 grandchildren, John "Perre" Holmes; Sara Garner; Tim Garner; a brother, Gary Watson and his wife Debbie and a sister, Nancy Jones both of Knoxville, TN and 2 step-sons, James Ferguson of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Phillip Lewandowski of Lewes, DE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 PM on Friday, November 20, 2015 at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Interment will be private.
