John Walter Smith
Age 89, formerly of Wilmington, De., passed from this earth on 11/21/09 at the home of his son in Rehoboth Beach, De.
Walter was born the youngest of seven children to Samuel Absolom and Grace {Cullen} Smith in Jenkins Bridge, Va.
Walter was a WWII veteran and retired from Delmarva Power after 47 years of loyal service, before and after which he enjoyed his hobbies of trap shooting and traveling. Walter was an expert shot, 32 Degree Mason, and a longtime member of Hillcrest Methodist Church in Bellefonte, De. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Margaret {Morris}, in 1990, by his brothers Alton and Harry, and sisters Eloise, Grace, Blanche and Edwina. He is survived by his wife Sara C. {Mears}; son Steven W. Smith and his wife, Lynn; granddaughter Deborah L. Smith of Rehoboth Beach as well as many nieces and nephews.
The services and burial will be private. Interment will be at Grace Lawn Memorial Park in New Castle De.
