John Willard Slotter's Obituary
John Willard Slotter, 92, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away on August 6, 2025. Born in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, on September 27, 1932, he was the son of the late James Irwin Slotter and Katie Slotter, and one of ten children in the Slotter family.
In 1954, John married Mary Alyce (Wampole), beginning a partnership that spanned 71 years. They raised their four sons in Souderton, Pennsylvania, and later enjoyed retirement years in Sebring, Florida, and Marmora, New Jersey, before eventually settling in Lewes, Delaware.
John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War before returning home to build a lifelong career with Ametek, Inc., US Gauge Division in Sellersville, Pennsylvania. Known for his dependability and skill, he also served as president of his local union, advocating for his fellow workers and ensuring their voices were heard. Beyond his career, John was active in his community as a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed the camaraderie it offered.
He and his wife, Mary Alyce (Wampole) Slotter, made their home in Souderton, Pennsylvania. For many years, nearly every summer weekend was spent with family at the Jersey shore, where when he wasn’t basking in the sun he could be found in front of his Coleman camp stove cooking up pancakes for breakfast and flounder for supper. In retirement, John and Mary spent time in Sebring, Florida, and Marmora, New Jersey, before settling in Lewes, Delaware.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Alyce; sons Douglas, David (and Doreen), and Dale (and John Buchheit); granddaughters Desiree Slotter (and Sean Correll) and Danielle Lawrence (and Ian Lawrence); and his sisters Ruthie Yothers and Nancy Keller. He was preceded in death by his son Dennis, his parents, and his other siblings.
John will be remembered for his loud humor and quick wit always ready to fill a room with laughter. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he especially enjoyed cheering for the Phillies and the Eagles. His proudest personal achievement on the lanes was bowling a perfect 300.
Steady, practical, and committed, John focused on providing for his family, contributing to his community, and enjoying life—whether through work, time at the shore, or hitting the lanes.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 10:30am at Washington Crossing Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory to a charity of choice.
