John "Jack" M. Eckrich's Obituary
John Matthew Eckrich of Georgetown passed away peacefully on September 17, 2010 at Renaissance Health Care, Millsboro, DE. He was 93. Mr. Eckrich was born March 31, 1917 in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Lewis and Anna Eckrich.
Mr. Eckrich was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945. He spent 2 and one-half years overseas in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. He was honored with the American Defense Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Eckrich retired in 1974 from General Motors, Boxwood Road Plant, after 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Georgetown. He was a lifetime member of the Laurel Sportsman Beagle Club. He enjoyed raising beagles, gardening, attending auctions and sales, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Helen P. Eckrich (2005). He is survived by two sons and three daughters: John M. Eckrich, Jr. and wife Kathy of Bethany Beach, DE, Paul Eckrich and wife Debra of Georgetown, Linda and David Pusey of Georgetown, Amy and Keith Long of Berlin, MD and Beth and Roger McMeekin of Newark, DE; twelve grandchildren; and a brother Lewis Eckrich of Wilmington, DE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 23, 11:00 AM, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 202 Edwards Street, Georgetown, DE. Friends may call at the church beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:00 PM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Georgetown, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
