John M. McHugh Sr.'s Obituary

John "Jack" M. McHugh, Sr., age 82, of Dagsboro, DE, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at, the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. He was born in Wilmington, DE, on July 3, 1937 son of the late Francis and Margaret (Leonard) McHugh.
Mr. McHugh was born and raised in New Castle, DE. He proudly served in the United States Army while serving in the National Guard where he was activated during the Berlin Conflict. He attended the University of Delaware for accounting. Mr. McHugh worked for many years in Retail Management for Pathmark Stores. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, DE.
Mr. McHugh was a six year member and officer of the American Legion Post 24 in Dagsboro, DE. He played Santa Clause for the American Legion and the Nanticoke Tribe. Mr. McHugh was a collector of Pioneer and Western items and in his spare time loved gardening.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McHugh was preceded in death by his twin brother, James McHugh. He is survived by his wife, Emma Jean (August) McHugh of Dagsboro, DE; two sons: John, Jr. and Mark McHugh, both of Dagsboro, DE; six siblings: Francis McHugh of New Castle, DE, Lois McClure or New Castle, DE, Margaret Atkins of New Castle, DE, Edward McHugh of Middletown, DE, Janice McHugh of New Castle, DE, and Deborah McHugh of New Castle, DE; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at 11:00 AM, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the Mass at 1:00 PM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. McHugh’s name to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19961.
