John "Jack" L. Phillips' Obituary
John "Jack" L. Phillips, age 70, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born October 17, 1938 in Chester, PA, son of the late Harry and Dorothy (McKnight) Phillips.
Jack and his wife of 50 years, Genevieve "Viv" R. (Perotta) Phillips moved to Lewes seven years ago from Wallingford, PA. While living in Pennsylvania, he was a 30 year volunteer fire fighter in Parkside, PA. He worked for Boeing for 35 years, never missing a days work; at the time of his retirement, he was a Quality Analyst. Jack served with the U.S. Navy out of Key West, FL on the USS Forrester. While in the Navy, he was a boxer in keeping with his childhood status as a Golden Glove Boxer. While growing up in Pennsylvania, he was also a member of his high school swim and dive teams. For 50 years he loved fishing for flounder off the Delaware coast thus leading him and his wife to become full-time residents of Lewes seven years ago. Jack and Viv were members of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church. Jack was a devoted and loving husband and father.
In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by a son John L. Phillips, Jr. and his wife June of Rehoboth Beach, DE; a daughter Elaine Kempski of Pike Creek, DE; four sisters, Dotty Kulko and her husband Michael of Ridley Park, PA, Pat Spicer and her husband John of Woodlyn, PA, Karen Klimczak of Westville, NJ and Kathy Gallagher and her husband John of Bellmawr, NJ; his Aunt, Eleanor McKnight of Glen Riddle, PA; and two grand-pets, Anna and Riley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jim Hreha on Friday, November 21, 11:00 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church, Delaware Rt. 1 north of Five Points. Friends may call at the church beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude The Apostle Building Fund, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE 19958.
