John "Jack" J. Mooney's Obituary
John "Jack" J. Mooney Jr. died peacefully at home on April 14, 2010. Jack was born on September 24, 1936 in Brooklyn in the shadow of Ebbets Field, graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and the Polytechnical Institute of Brooklyn with a Bachelors of Chemical Engineering Degree. He was a member of the National Society of Pershing Rifles, served two years in the US Army Corp of Engineers and 34 years with the DuPont Company. Jack was involved for many years in Little League Baseball in Newark, DE. He was the state director of Babe Ruth Baseball, the team director of the Capital Trail Football League, a swimming and diving official for Delaware High Schools and the University of Delaware. Jack also served on the Board of Directors at the Persimmon Creek Swim Club. He was also very involved in Junior Achievement at several high schools, mentored in lower Delaware, and served Meals on Wheels for many years in the Millville area. In 1991, Jack was awarded the DuPont Marketing of Excellence Award. Upon retirement, he co-founded Delaware Associates International and taught abroad in bench marking continuous process improvements for several foreign governments. Jack and his wife of 52 years, Barbara, moved to Bethany Beach in 1992 where he loved to "hit the beach."
In addition to his wife Barbara, Jack is survived by his daughter Suzanne Halter of Newark DE; his three sons, John III and his wife, Tyann of Hanover, PA, Nicholas and his wife, Beverly of Tarpon Springs, FL, Michael and his wife, Robyn of Wilmington, DE; and his sister, Maria Johansen and her husband Bob of South Bethany, DE. Jack will also be dearly missed by his nine grandchildren: John IV, Meghan, Donika, Dustin, Logan, Paige and Kellan Mooney, Shaun and Kory Halter and his greatest joy, his great grandson, Dylan Patrick Mooney.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and caring professionals at Compassionate Care Hospice for their excellent care of Jack.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation from 6 PM – 8 PM on Friday, April 23 at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, 34874 Atlantic Avenue, Ocean View, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday April 24, 10:30 AM, at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach. Interment will be private.
