John Carroll Hickey's Obituary
John (Jack) C. Hickey, age 88 of Georgetown, DE, and retired Verizon (Bell Atlantic) employee, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021. He was born on August 01, 1932, son of the late John C. and Violet Cathers (Collins).
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jack graduated from John Bartram High School and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business.
Jack was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and had worked for Bell/ AT&T for over 40 years. He was a devoted Christian and was proud to be an active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, Holy Comforter Church in Drexel Hill, PA as well as All Saints Church and St. Georges Chapel in Rehoboth Beach DE, where he served as a lay reader, treasurer, and member of the vestry at all 3 locations.
Jack served as an elected member of the Delaware County Counsel Commission. He was President of the Homeowners Association of the Village of Cinderberry, in Georgetown, DE and member of the Lion's Club. Jack was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and enjoyed traveling, reading and his pets.
Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife Suzanne; his son John, and daughter Diane (Daryl); his grandchildren: Justin and Jennifer (Clay); and great grandchildren: Leia, Lane, and Lana; his stepson, Christopher Altoe; and his grandchildren: Tyler, Cayleb, and Collan.
A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's name to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, 22918 DuPont Blvd,Georgetown, DE 19947, or All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
