John Carroll Guenveur's Obituary
John “Jack” Carroll Guenveur Jr., age 83 of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away suddenly on Friday, September 10, 2010 doing what he loved, playing golf at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. He was born April 20, 1927 in Wilmington, DE, son of the late John Carroll Guenveur Sr. and Caroline (Dunbar) Guenveur.
Jack attended school in Wilmington and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1945. Following 2 years in the U.S. Navy, he attended the University of Delaware where he received a B.A. degree in Economics in 1952; he was also a member of the golf team and Theta Chi fraternity. After graduation, Jack worked for more than 30 years in marketing and sales management with DuPont. Jack was a member of the Salisbury Junior Chamber of Commerce and for many years was active in the Laurel, MD Boys and Girls Club holding a variety of leadership roles and coaching. An avid golfer and member of Rehoboth Beach C.C., Jack coordinated the junior golf program at the club for 19 years. He loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, having everyone together for holidays and playing golf. He was an accomplished wood carver who made finely detailed waterfowl decoys and when the weather was right you could find Jack surf fishing for blues or mangrove snapper in the Keys. Jack was a long time member of St. Edmond’s Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his son, John C. Guenveur III. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jean (Swayze) Guenveur; daughter, Carolyn Guenveur of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Bill Guenveur and wife Mary and their daughter Meredith, all of Dallas TX.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends may call starting at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Special Olympics of Delaware, P.O. Box 7229, Newark, DE 19714-7229 or to The University of Delaware, 011 Hullihen Hall, Newark, DE 19716-4006.
