John Francis Ehresman Sr.'s Obituary
John Ehresman, PGA Golf Professional
John “Jack” Ehresman, PGA Golf Professional 87, of Lewes, Delaware passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026. Jack lived life to the fullest, valuing time with family and friends. He shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Judy—and together, they built a strong and enduring foundation for their family which was rooted in faith, togetherness and enjoyment of life’s many blessings. His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride.
Born in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania on June 30, 1938, Jack was the son of Clarence and Josephine (née Dlugosz) Ehresman. Jack quite literally grew up on the golf course with his childhood home being on the Ashbourne Country Club property in Cheltenham, PA. He spent 26 years as the head golf professional at Ashbourne following in the footsteps of his father, Clarence, who also enjoyed a long and similar career there and where his mother, Josephine, became an avid golfer as well. He took pride in serving the membership and organizing the club’s many unique and charitable golf outings. Over the course of his career, Jack held three course records and recorded 19 holes-in-one, a testament to his skill and dedication to the game. Thanks to member sponsorship, he also had the opportunity to play in PGA Tour qualifying events.
Jack’s time at Ashbourne also afforded his three sons and daughter the opportunity to work at the club and learn the game. All three sons went on to become varsity golf team members in high school and now continue to enjoy the game into their adult lives. After retiring from Ashbourne, Jack continued teaching at Burholme Golf Range where he gave lessons to not only the general public but also to underprivileged youth from Philadelphia, individuals with disabilities, and summer camp children. He carried on his professional teaching in Lewes, DE at Midway Par 3 golf course until 2022.
Jack proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, a role that reflected the discipline, humility, and quiet strength he carried throughout his life. Jack loved history and nature and found peace in long walks, especially at Tyler State Park in Newtown, Pennsylvania, and along the canal in Lewes, Delaware. Jack will be remembered by his personality that drew people in wherever he went. He was funny, charming, and had a natural way of making others feel comfortable and at ease. It seemed there was rarely a place he went where someone didn’t recognize him—a reflection of the many lives he touched. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Judy Ehresman (née Bach), and their children, Eric Ehresman (Jenn Ehresman), John Ehresman Jr. (Rebecca Ehresman), Jessica Aquilina (James Aquilina II), Brian Ehresman (Katie Hopkins); grandchildren, Mackenzie Ehresman, John Ehresman III, Aiden Ehresman, James Aquilina III, Michael Aquilina, Siena Aquilina and Hannah Ehresman.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Ehresman, and Josephine Ehresman, and his brother, Charles Ehresman.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE. Family will be available for visitation at the church from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. A gathering for family and friends will immediately follow the Mass at the Nassau Grove Clubhouse, 17153 Nouveau Ave, Lewes, DE 19958.
The family will hold a private interment ceremony at St. Peter’s Pilottown Cemetery in Lewes, Delaware.
