On behalf of all us at Tiajoloff & Kelly LLP, we extend our deepest condolences to the Lynch family upon Jack's passing. You were truly blessed as were all of us who knew him.
I worked with Jack at Felfe & Lynch from 1993 to 2000. I read some of the early drafts of "Fishing Up the Moon". Jack really showed me the way. He demonstrated and proved that the practice of law is only one pursuant among many that make up well lived, and highly honorable life. He did not let the law consume him as it did many in the 1980's and 90's. I learned a lot from him.
I enjoyed so many stories of Block Island and it was easy to appreciate the love he had for the Island and the family time he spent there. We had a case in Columbus, Ohio once and even there in a steak house he made a Block Island connection with the owner.
Jack had a wit I could appreciate. We had an appeal in the federal court in Chicago and I got pretty beaten up by 3 judges in what turned out to be a losing oral argument. When I returned to the counsel table Jack was sitting there and he said "You know sometimes they just beat up the guy who is on the winning side...but I don't think this is one of those times": And it was wasn't.
I always thought Jack tried to keep things simple: Remember this from "Fishing Up The Moon":
"Why do people fish in Montauk?
"Because that is where the fish are".
I think of Jack when I am out on the ocean and will continue to do so.
Jack, the sailors on the seas are thinking of you tonight.
Truly, A Life in Full
