John Everett Culp's Obituary
John Everett Culp Jr., age 72, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Milford Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born November 11, 1939 in Jena, LA, son of the late John Everett and Lou Ellen (West) Culp.
Mr. Culp was raised in Gurdon, AR where he graduated high school. In 1962, he graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a BS in Mechanical Engineering; he was a member of several academic societies as well as R.O.T.C. while in school. He had a varied career path that included three years of active duty with the US Army at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, MD where he was a Second and First Lieutenant and aide-de-camp to Brigadier General Heister with whom he enjoyed playing golf, handball and squash.
Following his military service, John worked as an engineer for Air Products and Chemicals in Allentown, PA while pursuing an MBA from Muhlenberg and Lehigh University. After four years with Air Products, John and his colleagues started several businesses in the Lehigh Valley, one of which remains today.
John was an avid skier and looked forward to weekends with his friends skiing in New York and Vermont when he was younger. John enjoyed taking annual fishing trips to Canada with family and friends for many years. He also enjoyed boating with special friends on the Chesapeake Bay and in Ocean City, New Jersey. A fishing trip to Alaska with his son John was especially memorable.
John is survived by his wife of 47 years Carole (Potter) Culp; a son John E. Culp III and wife Karen of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter Traci Sonnenberg and husband Nathan of Vienna, VA; 6 grandchildren of Phoenix, and Vienna; and two brothers: Barry and wife Kay of Dobson, NC and Joe and wife Christie of Pasadena, MD.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 23, at 4:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may visit with the family beginning at 3:00 PM. He will be entombed at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Disabled American Veterans of Delaware, c/o Arthur Chick, 16206 County Seat Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
