John Jamison Crum's Obituary
John Jamison Crum, age 87, of Manning, SC, formerly of Wilmington and Lewes, DE, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning, after complications from a fall at his home. He was born August 12, 1923 in Hornell, NY, son of the late Ralph Walter and Marion (Jamison) Crum of Upper Montclair, NJ.
Mr. Crum was an Eagle Scout and a U.S. Navy WWII veteran, who served as a Lieutenant (J.G.) with the Pacific Fleet. He graduated from the College of William & Mary of Williamsburg, VA and was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was active in the College’s alumni affairs for many years.
He began his career in banking in New York City and Philadelphia and then moved to Wilmington, Delaware to work with The DuPont Company’s financial division for over two decades. He returned to banking in Philadelphia retiring as Vice President of Industrial Valley Bank. After retiring to Lewes, Mr. Crum became active in the Lewes Presbyterian Church and pursued his hobbies of woodworking, visiting national parks, and following local and national news.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Crum was preceded in death by his first wife, Daphne (Andrews) Crum; two sisters: Marion Janet Billings and Mary Abby Smith. He is survived by his wife, Grace Reeder Crum; four children and their spouses: Jean and husband Terry Jones, William Crum and wife Denna, Janet and husband David Oxford, Abby and husband James Gale; and his stepson, Larry Reeder and wife Susan. He also leaves many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE on Thursday, August 11 at 10 AM. A private family burial will follow at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lewes Presbyterian Church, Lewes, DE.
