Memories of Cousin Buddy: Back in the day, when we were both a little bit younger! Deer hunting trip at the Bear Wallow campsite, 2/3 up the side of Black Head Mountain, in the Catskill Mountains. After a three-hour hike, all uphill . Hiked in on Friday afternoon to arrive at the hunting camp, where we enjoyed a meal cooked over a campfire. Off to bed to arise before daybreak for some coffee and an easy breakfast. Then on to the hunt, Deer or Black Bear being our only choices. Well, as for the weather not cooperating, as you would have it, rain, freezing rain, sleet, and just plain cold. Well, Buddy, wanting to keep His scope from getting wet, decides to cover it with a handkerchief and secure it with twine. Well, as you would know, along comes this black bear right in front of Buddy. While Buddy is trying to remove his handkerchief from his scope, which had by this time gotten wet and frozen in place, by the time Buddy got the scope clear, the bear was out of range, and Buddy could not get a clean kill shot. Buddy had a deep love for His family and would come to the Yearly Chadderdon family reunions. These times were cherished by everyone. Georgia's and my last time spent with Buddy was when He was on His way to Boston. Buddy called and said that He wanted to get together and go out for dinner. Had a great meal, wine, and a good time. Also another cherished memory.
