John William Bogia's Obituary
John William "Jack" Bogia, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in hospice care on April 15, 2024, in his hometown of Wilmington, DE, at the age of 87. Born on April 8, 1937, to the late Harry Garrison Bogia and Lorraine Lenz Bogia, Jack grew up in a world brimming with post-war optimism and embraced life with a spirit of adventure and dedication.
Jack's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his community. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, MaryLou, who was the cornerstone of his life. Together, they raised a loving family that includes their daughters Tina and Sheila, their sons Stephen and Chris, and a legacy of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his later years. Jack's faithful canine companion, Gunny, was a constant source of comfort and friendship.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Vincent Vicario.
Jack was a proud graduate of Salesianum High School, class of 1955, and later attended Goldey-Beacom College, where he furthered his education and prepared for a successful career. After serving his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1958, Jack carried the discipline and respect he learned in the military throughout his life. His professional life was distinguished by a long tenure in pharmaceutical sales, where he was known for his integrity, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Upon retirement, Jack found joy and purpose working at the Avalon Recreation Center in Avalon, NJ, where he continued to make a positive impact on his community.
Jack's passions were as varied as they were deep. A lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, he found greatest joy and excitement in the timeless game of baseball. His love for history was profound, with a particular interest in the first and second World Wars and the Vietnam War. Traveling to Europe was one of Jack's favorite pursuits, a testament to his love for German culture and his desire to connect with the world beyond his doorstep. These journeys were not only adventures but also educational experiences that he cherished deeply.
Above all, Jack's greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Gunny. Whether sharing stories of the past, attending baseball games, or simply enjoying the company of his loved ones, Jack's presence was a source of warmth and wisdom.
Jack's life was a tapestry of dedication, service, and love. As we remember Jack, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man well-loved. His memory will be held in the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes Atkins-Lodge, 16961 Kings Hwy, Lewes, DE 19958, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 AM. Burial will be held privately.
