John H. Beebe's Obituary
John H. Beebe, age 81 of Lewes, DE, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2011, after suffering a stroke. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1996. He was born in Springfield, MA on Wednesday, January 22, 1930, son of the late Ralph Alonso and Elizabeth (Wagner) Beebe.
Mr. Beebe attended Phillips Exeter Academy and received his B.A. in Geology from Amherst College. He also earned an MAT from Harvard and taught secondary school mathematics at Groton School, Western Reserve Academy and Phillips Andover. He served as chair of the Mathematics Department at Holland Hall School in Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1970 to 1976. He later worked as a systems analyst for Public Service Company of Oklahoma until he retired in 1992.
He was a member of the choir at Trinity Church of Tulsa, St. Columba's in Washington, DC and the Elder Moments in Lewes, DE. He coached a variety of youth sports, including soccer, softball, wrestling, volleyball and crew. He was a dedicated volunteer at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD from 1992 to 2007. He loved being on stage, singing, playing the harmonica and writing poetry. He also had a passion for Aborigine art and walking his dogs.
He is survived by is his wife, Diana C. Beebe of Lewes, DE, one daughter; Elizabeth Smith of Newton, MA, two granddaughters; Julia and Sarah Smith of Newton, MA and two brothers; David Beebe of Belfast, ME and Christopher Beebe of Camden, ME.
A Memorial Service will be scheduled for a later date at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lewes.
