John Richard Barton Jr.'s Obituary
A Tribute to John September 3, 1963 – May 25, 2026
John departed this life peacefully on May 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing he is now resting peacefully in the arms of the Lord.
John was raised in the Lutheran faith as the son of a devoted minister who faithfully served for over 40 years. During a revival service at First Baptist Church, John gave his life to Christ and was later baptized, beginning a lifelong journey of faith.
Raised in Philadelphia alongside his twin sister, Joy, and younger sister, Beth, John was known for his brilliant mind, love of history, and passion for learning. He attended Gannon University and later Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown. He worked with the Public Defender's Office and Child Advocate's Office in Delaware and was affectionately nicknamed "The Professor" by his college friends.
John courageously lived with cerebral palsy and shared a lifelong friendship with his best friend, Todd Zacirka. Despite physical challenges, John never stopped encouraging others, counseling people, and sharing his faith.
On October 30, 2015, John married the love of his life, Tina, in Milton, Delaware. Together they built a life centered on compassion, faith, and helping others. Over the years, John and Tina opened their hearts and home to countless people in need—providing meals, shelter, guidance, encouragement, and hope.
John was the proud father of twin sons, Jesse and Jared. Jesse and his wife, Kate, welcomed their daughter, Holland Belle Barton, on July 6, 2025. Jared and his fiancee, Taylor Ingham, welcomed their son, Benjamin Harris Barton-Ingham, on September 3, 2025, sharing John's special birthday.
He also lovingly embraced Tina's children, Amelia and Tate, as his own. John adored his family, cherished his beloved pets, and treasured the many friendships he formed throughout his life.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Steve Schrock for years of devoted caregiving, James Rose for his compassionate support, and to all family, friends, neighbors, and church family who loved and supported John throughout his journey.
Above all, John will be remembered for his kind heart, brilliant mind, unwavering faith, and the countless lives he touched through love, compassion, wisdom, and generosity.
